Glyphs Explained by Ino
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share with you my findings concerning the glyph system.
A quick definition of what a glyph is may be needed for those of you unfamiliar with TERA. As you may know like most MMORPGs, TERA possesses different classes which are able to perform skills. Each skill improves with the progression in level, but what makes the real difference is the tweaking you can get by applying glyphs to skills.
Different colors, different effects
First of all you can find 4 types of glyphs which are recognizable by their colour:
- The most spread one is the sky-blue-coloured which means that the effect of the glyph is sure to happen and impacts the skill on one of its different parameters: mana cost, cooldown, cast time, range, target number, etc... We can call them passive glyphs.
- Then you can have red glyphs which are slightly different from the sky-blue ones in the way that the effect affecting the skills is subject to a probability (e.g. 10% to deal double damage). We can call them active glyphs.
- Another type you can encounter is green shaded and they are not affecting the skill they are associated to, but the next skill in the chain of skills offered by the game. This means that sometimes when you will cast a skill, the icon of the next chain skill will pop-up and ask you to press the combo hotkey. It is the latter which will be affected by the glyph applied on the earlier skill which was first used.
- Finally, you have a rare type of glyph which is dark-blue colored. They are specific glyphs whose effect reduces collateral damage produced by the skill used. This information has yet to be confirmed.
Allocation system
Now each glyph consumes glyph points (2 to 7 points) when applied to a skill, they are shown at the bottom right corner of your glyph icon, circled in red. You can see that some classes share some glyphs and their cost can differ. And of course you have a limited amount of glyph points which you need to allocate to available glyphs. At level 25, you will receive 10 glyph points to allocate and for each additional level you will earn 1 glyph point which gives a total of 35 points to spend at level 50. It is good to know that even though you have a limited amount of glyph points to spend, it is still possible to acquire all the glyphs by simply buying them, your only limit being the gold you have in your purse :D
So when you want to test builds, I would recommend you acquire the whole glyphs list of your class. Be aware that once a glyph is bought you will have to allocate your points to render it active. You can deactivate them in your skills window but your glyph points will not be recovered. To reclaim those you will need to reset your glyph points at the glyph merchant. Obviously resetting your build has also a cost, but how much money can you spend for the sake of science? :D
Now, some of you may have skipped the first few lines and jumped already at this section to discover the detailed effects of all the skills included in TERA.
